We got a Virus!

After months of neglecting to install an anti-virus on the desktop, I was welcomed by a very nasty virus Saturday night.

The virus is called Antivirus XP 2010. It pretends to be an antivirus and it "scans" your computer and "finds" a bunch of viruses and then tells you to buy their software to remove them. The software will either do nothing or make it worse. We were unable to access the internet from the desktop while we were in the process of removing the virus. We had to use Brent's laptop to install different programs and then transferred the programs over to the desktop via thumbdrive.

Here is the freeware we used to get rid of that nasty virus:

AVG  has a free antivirus program that we love...mostly because it's free, but it's very effective.
Spybot: Search and Destory It's pretty good at finding what other anti-virus programs miss. Again, it's free.
Malware Bytes: An anti-malware program that finds and removes malware

These three in combination and lots of hours working to get rid of the virus did the job.

Brent also used this to help him get rid of it.

Good luck, and install an antivirus before this happens to you too!

Also Superantispyware works.
My computer at work has now crashed twice because my bosses are cheap. Hate it.
